In a soliloquy, Holy Man Zechariah describes Angel Gabriel's message that his aged wife, Elizabeth, will bear a son and name him John. Zechariah's disbelief forces Gabriel to render him silent until John's birth.

Lyrics

TIL JOHN'S CRY IS HEARD by Scott Detweiler

An angel came to me
He had a horn
An angel came to me
He had a horn
And as he did blow
I knew some babies would be bein born

Said me and Elizabeth
Would have a son John
Said me and Elizabeth
Would have a son John
I did not believe it
I thought our time had gone

I have believed
All my life and I’ve prayed
Only to doubt
God’s angel that day

Said since I doubted
He’d silence my words
Said since I doubted
He’d silence my words
That I would not be talkin
Til John’s cry is heard

No more talkin
Til John’s cry is heard
