Lyrics
PONCHARTRAIN (by Scott Detweiler)
His children were hungry
The rent was two months late
He got laid off in Mandeville
So he headed New Orleans way
Days later still frustrated
Still no work so still no pay
He got a gun and robbed a corner grocery store
Then he drove across the lake
Ponchartrain
Cross Lake Ponchartrain
He had to cross the Ponchartrain that night
He made it home to his family
With his truck full of food
He's haulin turkey, french bread and lemonade
He had some king cakes and cans of soup
His doorbell it was the sherriff
With the deputies who tracked his trail
They took him out in some shiny handcuffs
And headed for the parish jail
Ponchartrain
Cross Lake Ponchartrain
He had to cross the Ponchartrain that night
