From the recording Ghoses
"Jesus Went Down To New Orleans" is a Detweiler original that chronicles the true story of the lure of hispanic immigrants to New Orleans, by unscrupulous employment agencies, to help clean up after the Hurricane Katrina disaster, only to get there, work for a few weeks and not get paid. (Scott's brother in law was actually a victim and the inspiration for this song).

Lyrics
JESUS WENT DOWN TO NEW ORLEANS by Scott Detweiler
Jesus went down to New Orleans
Got a lot of work down there
There really weren’t no way
To feed his family in L.A.
He’ll be home with cash in 27 days
To take down sad lonely houses
Gotta fight mosquitoes and the rain
By the 15th day
The brother still ain’t seen no pay
And his kids was cryin hungry on the phone
He’s gotta get home to California
But gots no money for the train
His lady Western Union sent
What she borrowed from her friends
She’s still hungry but Jesus is comin home
