2011 (Detweiler Records)
Scott Detweiler's "Big Scott” was the 4th (fourth) in his series of live CDs released between 2009 and 2011. It was recorded with a single microphone in July 2011 at world-famous Los Angeles area jazz club, Jax Bar & Grill, where Detweiler has performed for years. There are no overdubs or retakes in the recording.
On "Big Scott", Detweiler is backed by Dale Jennings on bass and Paul Van De Riet on drums.
This album contains over 77 (seventy seven) minutes of music, including new Detweiler compositions, "Fleur De Lis" (instrumental), "Jesus Went Down To New Orleans", "Linoleum Bonnet" (instrumental), "Y'all Broads", "They Put Me Down" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine". New arrangements of previously released Detweiler compositions include "Medley: Gator Woman/St. John Bayou", "Sister Marie", "Medley: Monkey Hill/Big Chief", and "Be Gentle". Also included are his arrangements of the classics, "How Blue Can You Get?", "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven" and "So What",
"Big Scott" breaks new ground for the traditional jazz trio not only because he is a guitar player and not a piano player or a horn player, but also because of his unique ability to sing over the complex rhythms of New Orleans into his music in a way that no other artist has been able to sustain.
